September is Healthy Aging Month

The Golden Years can bring some of the most rewarding decades of your life. You may be more confident while you gain wisdom and patience. Sure, you may sprout a few more gray hair and your face sports a few more lines, but you can grow older with your body and mind as healthy as they can possibly be.

Many older adults now use CBD as a treatment — both with and without a prescription — for mental and physical health issues.

Keep It Moving!

Staying active and doing things you love, keep you feeling happy and healthy.

ProActive Daily Choices!

Food plays a vital role in how people age. Focus on foods packed with vitamins to obtain the nutrients needed to help keep muscles, bones, organs and other parts of the body healthy and strong. Many studies have found that a diet of fruits, veggies and low-fat dairy, can help you live longer and protects against heart disease, cancer, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Maintain Your Brain!

Never stop learning. Challenge yourself! Learn to play a musical instrument, read a book or learn a new language.

ProActive Prevention!

Get a yearly flu vaccine and wash your hands after using the restroom and before handling food. Complete a home-safety checklist for unsafe areas to prevent falls.

Even as CBD's popularity has grown, the medical community is still not sure how it works scientifically. "It clearly has some anti-inflammatory effects, but the exact mechanism is still not known," says Pal Pacher, a pharmacologist and cardiologist at the National Institutes of Health, who has conducted studies on the compound.

The positive effects that are brought on using CBD can be particularly welcoming to seniors. Seniors can take advantage of the medical benefits afforded by the extract without the head or body sensation often associated with marijuana. CBD is an oil extract and therefore can be added to things like topical gels, tinctures and edible products.

CBD can help manage pain, promote bone health, improve sleep, combat addiction, improve heart health, improve mood and can deter neurodegenerative diseases.

While the potential benefits of CBD use are well documented, it is recommended that you always consult your physician regarding the use of any substance.
